If you find that X is running in a low color depth (8bpp being the likely
one) and that your card and X are capable of doing so at a higher depth, try
running X with '-bpp 16' or '-bpp 24' -- if they work, you can add a line
"DefaultColorDepth 16" (or 24, or 32, or whatever) to the Screen section in
XF86Config to use that depth by default.  16bpp is the generally recommended
one, since it avoids 8bpp's dithering while being faster and more generally
compatible than 24/32.
