Thanks for the "modprobe" command. I located the ISA card
at
IRQ=10 and i/o=0x2a0 and set it with the "/sbin/netconf"
feature to
reflect those values. I rebooted. eth0 became active when I
entered the command
/sbin/ifup eth0
Then I entered /sbin/ifconfig:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:001C:56:C6:D1
        inet addr: 192.168.1.4 Bcast: 192.168.1.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
        UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
        RX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
        TX packets:2 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

        collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
        Interrupt:10 Base address:0x2a0

Then I tried to ping the router:

It worked.

Then I tried to ping the linux box.....192.168.1.4

It worked.

Then I tried to ping the SF Chronicle site ( 209.1.99.80)

That worked, too .

Then I started Netscape 4.75 and it froze.
