I think I see the reason for the suggestion. I am a member of the LUGOD
lists (vox, vox-tech, and announce.) These lists have a talk (vox) and
talk-technical (vox-tech) because they were endingup with lots of OT (off
topic) comments on the normal lists. The advantage, is that linux related
items could be discussed as well Off-Topic content on their VOX lists,
while deep tech-support and hard-core questions could be discussed on
vox-tech. They even had different rules for each, where flaming on VOX
rules were more strictly enforced than vox-tech since vox had more
"newbies" than vox-tech.

Really, there is an advantage for LUGOD in having three lists for
ganularity of control and enforcement of rule. Many newbies to Linux might
be "turned off" if their first encounter to such a list was a flame-war,
while many people in a technical list are more experienced with such
things, and wont be so put-off by them.

Of course, newbies may be asked to take their questions to the technical
list if such a separation was made.

LUGOD also has more members in it and much more volume on their list, and
is a further reason for them to make such separations in the way they do
business.

If we get much bigger, I would strongly encourage such a separation and
addition in lists, but right now, I am "between two worlds" and cant make
a decision.

If you want a suggestion for another list that I would be willing to
moderate, it would be one where posts would be moderated and filtered for
content such that any personal attacks, or unkind statements to list
members are eliminated, and only technical information remains. This is,
of course, a lot of work, and would lead to delays between items being
posted, and edited for content to being re-sent to all memebrs. It would
be better if another person moderated and filtered such a list, so that I
could participate in the content (As I would like.) Anyone who was
moderator/filterer of such a list should not participate though. :-/

The name of such a list could be "flame-free-and-censored" or something
to convey that the content would be "flame free" and "modified" so that
people won't cry foul when their unkind words were omited.

Anyway, I like the new features I have seen added so far.
