Changing channels on the Wireless AP (which changes frequency used) or
changin channel on the phone cann help in some cases, but effects are
often limited with 2,5GHz spread specrum phones.

What you state is a very good idea! :-)

(It is what I would try first...)

I think 802.11a uses ~5 GHz and is another choice but more $$,
