open source photo gallery

Hello all,

I want to start up a new website of photos in a gallery format.

I am looking for a photo gallery package (open source for security
reasons) that will allow for classification of the subjects in the
photos (eg custom flags for stuff like groupphoto=yes subjects="john
doe,jane doe" otherkeywords="car,dinner" and then allow information for
each flag such as johns relation to jane and his phone number)

I really want to have a way to classify photos with information in a
database for a really extensible site. An example of this use could be a
cross post of my livejournal (quite a few people have these and it would
be neat to find a solution to linking people into your journal when they
do not have a journal). So say I am talking about Jane in my journal and
I could link to
http://photos.lostinthenoise.net/userinfo?firstname=jane&lastname=doe
and it would bring up all the photos of that person in the database. It
would also pull information about the subject from the database. Also I
would like to have it so those pictures can correlate to gallerys of
certian events. So in it I have a gallery of photos and jane is in one
of them it will still be able to use this feature.

The simplest manner I can see this possible is to use a premade package.
Another way is to create a database customised for this use and just
have a regex set up for simple searches.

A friend of mine wrote a similar package to what I want
(http://www.retina.net/~jna/autogallery/). However it doesn't have
everything I want it to do and I would feel foolish to write it all in
if it exists.


Any ideas?
