I thought I heard mention of a tool with recent Mandrake distro's that
might do it, but I'm not sure.


Regarding your later comments, running Linux inside a virtual machine
hosted on Windoze really defeats the purpose of running Linux.  One of
it's strongest points is that you can run all sorts of tasks at once and
they'll usually not get in your way.  I curse and scream every time I
have to use windows to:

a) Use the floppy (what is is switching to Real Mode or something?)
b) have to copy several dozen megabytes of data
c) anything else that requires windoze to think and chew gum at the same
time.
