Load the new box with RedHat 9.  If you are using the rpm versions of
your applications now, then install the new rpm versions of the
applications on the new box, otherwise it will be a mess if you copy
over the application files.  I may work now, but rpm upgrades will be
hosed.

Get the new installation runnning and then copy over your data.

If you compiled your applications from source, then feel free to copy
over whatever.

I never used RH8, but 9 doesn't seem too different from 7.3.
Xconfigurator is gone, and the new tool is a big step backwards.  They
changed a lot of the gui admin tools, but I don't use most of them.
They dropped a few more packages I like, but the old versions still seem
to work.
