Interbase did put it's own copy of libgds.so on the system.

[root at linux i386]# locate libgds.so
/usr/lib/libgds.so
/usr/lib/libgds.so.0
/opt/interbase/lib/libgds.so
/opt/interbase/lib/libgds.so.0

Could that make a difference?
