yes, otherwise the machines won't know where to send information to.
it's kinda like sending a letter; you wouldn't send a blank envelope to
someone; you always have to address it before you put it in the mailbox.

your setup as it is looks like it would already work at ssu. the ssu
network will give you an ip address via dhcp. actually that would be a
good testing ground to make sure everything is working properly.
