[NBLUG/talk] Enlightenment

I got Enlightenment working.

FWIW, I thought I'd post the stumbling blocks I ran
across and how I got past them.

Package imlib2 depends on imlib2-loader_argb,
imlib2-loader_png, and imlib2-loader_jpeg. All three
depend on imlib2. I was pulling out my hair trying to
get these installed until I realized that I could run
rpm -i followed by multiple package names, and rpm
would figure it out.

Second, I had trouble getting SuSE's login window to
understand that I'd added a new window manager; trying
to run enlightenment manually resulted in it wanting
to install itself as the default window manager and
killing all the other window managers (if this
happens, delete .xinitrc and .xsession in your
directory, and you'll have your window managers back).

Here's how I got it added to the login session menu
under SuSE: (the instructions I found on the Net were
geared to like SuSE 6.0) open the (KDE) control
center, click on System Administration (waaay down at
the bottom left), click on Login Manager, click the
Sessions tab, click Administration Mode (waay down at
the bottom), and type "enlightenment" into the "New
type" box, click "add", "apply", logout, and cross
your fingers.

Now, onto Enlightenent itself. :-)

First off, a name that doesn't bring up twenty cults
when plugged into Google would be nice. ;-) The
impression I get after fooling with it for a few
minutes is that it is pretty similar to WindowMaker
(it starts at a similar speed), except 1) it's a lot
prettier :-) and 2) the "eesh" feature mentioned on
greenfly.org is very intriguing. A lot of new
possibilities present themselves...

I'll get back once I've finished fooling with
Enlightenment. :-) Though, I'm sure that some people
who finished slogging through this post will wish I
didn't. :-P

(Tweaking your Linux install is so much fun!)
