Yes, the drive is not referenced as hda in the BIOS.  It could be hdb or hdc 
or hdd.

My laptop is hdc

Run the 'mount' command from linux and see what letter the drive is being 
referenced as - hda, hdb, hdc, hdd.

If you are lazy you can note this entry in your grub.conf file.
 #boot=/dev/hdc

So you would run

# grub-install /dev/hdc
