FWIW, on the problem machine, I'm using Slackware 9.1. I've only seen this
behavior on this particular distribution of Slackware. I'm also running
KMail on an older KDE version that came with Slackware 8.1. I think I was
even using KMail with my first Slackware 7.1 installation.

Anyway, I checked dmesg for something obvious. I get all my mail from one
pop3 server. What else can I tell you? The machine is old. It uses a P5
CPU running at about 166 MHz.

How would I know if KDE was not installed correctly? Everything else is
working fine...GIMP, OOo 1.1.0, RealPlayer 10.0.0.297, etc. The machine is a
trooper. It's my printer server, file server, webpage server, and radio
(streaming audio).

So, mutt, huh? Or upgrade to Slackware 10.0?
