[NBLUG/talk] Server for sale - cheap!

Steve pointed out a bunch on ebay. I should be able to pick one up for
about $25. I don't know if I can get one here by installfest though. I
would be great if I could get help setting this puppy up at installfest
though. As I remember, the kernel will need to be re-compiled for multiple
processors.

Myself I like redhat, but recently I've been doing a lot of work on sonic
leased servers and have found Mandrake to be almost identical to redhat.
However I tried a Mandrake 10 install at home and so far it's driven me
nuts. I set it to medium (or medium high) security and soon found that
root coudn't even log on from the console. That and a lot of stuff that I
thought should be there isn't.

In the past I thought debian looked like a good platform for a nice
server, but I remember it's a bit different from redhat and missing some
things I rather like (the service command?/chkconfig). I'll be wanting
MySQL(recent version), Samba, Apache 2, perl 5.8+, PHP, and webmin (I know
you're groaning, but I been using it for some things, mostly mail, since
the sonic servers have it and it's a nice remote acess tool. I do use
shells a lot more than it though).

So if there are some debian pros there, I may well go that way.
