What happened is that (almost) everyone who showed up for the meeting 
was against the Wi-Fi, and so the city council members who were for 
Wi-Fi but who are also (unfortunately) political creatures did the 
political thing and voted against the Wi-Fi.

I think if just 5 more people had showed up to speak in favor of the 
deployment they would have voted to keep it.

Now might be a good time to mention the conflict brewing about the 
redevelopment project in the North East area.  There is currently a 
group (with large overlap to the wifi opponents) opposing the 
redevelopment plan we've spent 5 years and $400K refining.  Tonight is a 
planning commission meeting, down at the youth annex, so if you've got 
time show up!
