The Linux Foundation is offering "free" Dell Chromebook 11, if you sign up for one of their courses, which costs $499 or more dollars.

Many websites are talking about this. google: Linux Foundation Dell Chromebook

I just had a chat with Dell about it. The chat service person had no idea of what I was talking about.

It looks to me like the Linux Foundation bought the computers from Dell, and then Linux Foundation will send the computers to the students, and then the students need to transfer the hardware warranty from the Linux Foundation to the students.

Since the Linux Foundation already owns the computers prior to shipping them to the students, it looks like the students don't really get a 1 year hardware warranty.

Even though it is a hardware warranty, I wonder if the warranty is still valid if one install a new operating system on the computer.

By the way, I found out about this because I had taken the free Linux Foundation course on edx.org It was "the first edition" of this course. I think they now have an improved 2nd edition. I was not impressed with their free course. https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-linux-linuxfoundationx-lfs101x-2
