Creative CD-ROM driives with infrared

I built a new computer for my parents, and among the parts in it is a 
Creative CD-ROM drive that came with an infrared (IR) port and a remote 
control.  Apparently, when HSC Electronics re-stocked their CD-ROM drives, 
Creative sent them the IR-capable CD-ROM drives at the same price.  Now I 
have the computer up and running, but I don't know if I can take advantage 
of the IR capability of the drive.

Has anyone used these drives?  Has anyone made the IR port work?  According 
to the Creative website, there are no drivers for their CD-ROM drives, but 
the drive did come with a driver disk (for Windows, of course).
