OK, time to learn how to build a server.

hi Doug,

the book i'd recommend is Unix System Administration Handbook, Third Edition
(the purple book, don't get the second edition which is red and doesn't
cover Linux) by Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, Scott Sebass and Trent Hein,
ISBN 0-13-020601-6. this is the most useful book that i've seen that
really has a clue about the greater issues of running a server on the
internet, and in one place how the internet works and how servers co-
operate in exchanging information. it also covers the use of the
traditional programs that communicate with other servers like Sendmail,
Apache and BIND as well as the internal issues of booting, file systems,
and monitoring. each chapter introduces the unix way, and then covers
specifically the differences between Linux, Solaris, HpUX and FreeBSD.
i'd recommend you consider using the traditional programs for httpd and
mail...their insanity may appeal to you as much as they do to me.
