[NBLUG/talk] SquirrelMail and PHP.

Actually I ran the config script. Everything looks like it's configured
properly, I even got past the authentication problem (I gave up on using
Cyrus IMAP server as it looked like an absolute nightmare to configure and
went to the standard Redhat distributed IMAP server, is that UW or other?).
Now I'm getting the error message:
-
Error opening /usr/share/squirrelmail/prefs//default_pref
Could not create initial preference file!
/usr/share/squirrelmail/prefs/ should be writable by user apache
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.
-
Now my permissions on that file and directory are:
drwxrwxr-x 2 apache apache 4096 Apr 23 11:01 prefs
-rw-rw-r-- 1 apache apache 106 Apr 23 10:56 default_pref

Which makes it all the more frustrating.
<sighs>

All that SM does is to pass on your auth credentials to the IMAP server
you configured it to us.

>From the SM dir, did you run the "configure" script (a suymlink to the
config folder config.pl script) ?

You are supposed to specify the kind of imap server and settings for how
to reach it.

eg, "courier" as an imap server vs uw-imap (or others)

Now that SM shows up and the php is parsed, the next step is to check your
config (above) and then use a different client to try to connect to your
imap server. Make sure you can connect to look at mail without SM before
adding a connect attempt to SM. Once you can connect to imap with a
different client, you just need to copy that client's "server settings" to
SM so that it can connect to the IMAP server.

Really, that is it. I know there are 3 or 4 others users on this list that
use SM. It is a great web based client.
