Hi Don'

I'm not using redhat 9 yet, but on my redhat box ther is a tool goes
like so:

(1) "su -" to root.
type: up2date --configure 

There are a bunch of options there for the update program.

up2date --configure
Again to confirm that the changes have taken place.
