[NBLUG/talk] Monitor Refresh Rate

Hi,

I'm running RedHat 8.0 with a ViewSonic A70 monitor
and an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro.

The system has detected the hardware properly,
according to the Display Settings tool, and I've set
the horizontal and vertical refresh rate properly,
30-70 and 50-180 respectivly, according to the
ViewSonic specs, and I'm running in 1024x768.

Despite this there is still a farily noticable flicker
in the monitor.

In windows on the same machine, there doesn't seem to
be a differentation between horizontal and vertical, I
just set the refresh rate to 87hz, as ViewSonic says
the monitor can run at this resolution. With this
setting, the monitor has no flicker and is very
'cool'.

Is there a way I can fix this flicker? I thought I
read some where that the system will pick a refresh
rate based on the values I entered. I tried entering
70 and 180, instead of the range I mentioned above, to
try and coax it into using the high values, but then X
went down.

Let me know what you think. I'm a Linux newbie and
want to learn more, but I can't look at the screen for
very long!

Thanks.
Chad.

Here's the support page for the monitor.
