I am a senior at SSU and I will graduate at the end of this month! I didn't
know you worked there. I spend A LOT of time at the SSU library and I have
seen the mechanical arm work through the little windows (and so has my wife
and our daughter).

Server (web, mail, ftp, pop, imap, dns, etc)
Filter (Filtering based router)---\
Stateful packet inspection---------\- both as part of a firewall solution
Embedded devices
Simple web browsing station
Games (Quake, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc)
Desktop publishing (Gimp)
Development (programming)
Tool in academics (OS design)
Special effects in movies (Titanic, Schrek, etc.)
Crypto/code breaking
Clusters
many, many more... Use is customizable

One of the big draws for Linux is how well it can be tooled or retasked to
a wide variety of puposes.

Maybe even include such uses as running a 3 story tall book robotic sstem
for storing books for a library :-)

Or control hardware used to record video in home electronic devices such
as those popular "Tivo" ;-)
