I've done some editing, but probably not at the level you're looking for.

Cinelerra:  never did get it to run.

Kino:  couldn't get it to use v4l.

avidemux:  excellent for cutting commercials out of video, somewhat limited. 
Handles divx4 avi's natively, no need to decompress/recompress.

BTW, I got streaming video working with Real on Linux, if anyone is
interested...
