SuSE 9.1 is working well for me on an Inspiron 1100, battery life is about
the same as under Windows XP.

The broadcom ethernet works right out of the box, you'll have to run
ndiswrapper for the linksys wireless, or get a netgear card (they are $25
after rebate) :)
