If you install no X server and KDE or gnome 512 is realistic, but if 
you're using it as a desktop, 3 gigs is almost a minimun, because of all 
the standard software and the X server.

BTW, it almost goes without saying but if this is a file/mail server or 
server where you store data, you need WAY more...
