[NBLUG/talk] RG to Yamaha Motif ES 8 over USB with ALSA

I sent this to Rosegarden-user, thought maybe I'd ask here too.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to talk to the M8 over USB, both to control it
from Rosegarden, and to record the resulting audio (over USB, if possible).

And BTW, there's pictures at http://ponzo.net/ES/20050113_synth/ :)

Subject: [Rosegarden-user] RG to Yamaha Motif ES 8 over USB with ALSA
Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2005 09:35:43 -0800

Hi,

A precursory inspection of the list archives didn't turn up anything useful.

I've got a Yamaha Motif ES 8 connected to my computer with USB -- the ALSA
USB driver detects the raw midi ports, but it doesn't show up as a MIDI
synth.

I tried to use virmidi, but was unable to figure out how to get the
raw midi ports connected with aconnect.

The end result is that Rosegarden doesn't see the Motif 8. I'm bummed! --
I'd like to be able to control the M8 from Rosegarden, and vica-versa.

Is this a limitation in the drivers? Is there some magic incantation I need
to do? Thanks for any help you can provide.

 -Scott
