Ahh, you asked this question in IRC, #nblug, but unfortunately no one
was around to help right away.  Dustin did eventually pop up with a
couple of good suggestions:
Try the 'lspci' command
Try 'cat /proc/pci'

But 'mplayer -vo' help will get you a list of supported devices.
use xv, if available.

likewise, mplayer -ao help does the same for audio.
vo == video output
ao == audio output
