WiFi Maps (www.wifimaps.com) is one of my favorites. Although it is not
always up to date. Word of mouth and war driving seem to be the best
ways to stay apprised.

Off the top of my head:

Sonic.net has a lot of hotspots: http://www.sonic.net/hotspots/

Tmobile has a bunch of hotspots in Starbucks, and Borders:
http://www.t-mobile.com/hotspot/

Nocat used to be pretty active out in the Sebastopol area:
http://nocat.net/

McDonald's has hotspots: http://www.mcdwireless.com/

A'Roma Roasters has wireless: http://www.aromaroasters.com/

Redwood Cafe in Cotati has wireless.

Many of the Deaf Dog Coffee shops have wireless.

On the coast Inn at the Tides has wireless:
http://www.innatthetides.com/
although they don't advertise it.

Hope that helps.

augie.
